I'm a 19, soon to be 20 year old college student who has a weight loss goal of 30 pounds in 90 to 120 days. I would like to replace 2 of my 3 meals with protein shakes (scoop of whey protein, banana, oat meal, fat-free yogurt, almonds). And then a healthy dinner. All this would be coupled with 45 minute cardio-workouts 5 days a week. Would the shakes add on weight and be counter-productive? If not, how long would it take to see results?

How can I stop sabotaging myself with my weight?

I am overweight. I've been overweight my entire life. However, at 19 years old, I'm currently at my heaviest, 5'5 and 175 pounds. I have every door open to me. My parents have no problem paying any amount of money to pay for gym memberships, health programs, weight loss camp, personal trainers, etc. And I cannot tell you how much I have appreciated their help. But every single time i start a weight loss program, I suddenly stop exercising and just begin to eat and eat. Usually, i cannot last more than 2 or 3 weeks. I just don't understand how i have had all these opportunities and still continue to allow myself to gain weight. I just keep thinking of more and more excuses to not lose weight. Is there anyone who can help me understand why I continue to sabotage myself? Any advice is appreciated.

Quick Weight Loss Techniques That Work Well

There's no doubt that many people need to lose a few pounds.  Walk around where people gather, you'll notice the fat.  Don't laugh.  Unfortunately you're likely to see it in the mirror too.  If you've made quick weight loss your goal, keep a few simple things in mind to take off the pounds quickly and safely.

Skipping meals is one of the first things people often try when they want to lose weight.  It makes sense, right, cut out the calories by eating one {fewer meal}.  Fewer calories means losing weight, right?  correct but skipping meals isn't the right way to reduce calories}.  When you skip meals your body goes into starvation mode.  It starts to retain fat to counteract what it perceives as a shortage of food.  When you skip meals you'll end up hungrier at the next meal.  The result is binge eating.  Skipping meals is the worst of both worlds that results in gaining even more weight.  Don't skip meals.

Have a plan on how much to eat.  Portion control is just as important as eating the right food.  Too much of even a healthy food will still result in weight gain.  Portion control isn't easy when large portions are so common.  Restaurants and even most people in home cooking serve portions far larger than needed.  Sources such as the FDA list recommended daily allowances.  If you must eat out, keep portion size in mind.  Don't eat the full portion served at the restaurant, or order less than a full meal, such as soup and a salad.

Eat more whole grain foods, skip the white grains such as white bread, sugar and white rice.  Whole grains are lower in fat and higher in nutrients.  The fiber in whole grains helps you become full quicker, and feel fuller longer.  Also whole grains contain many nutrients that are often lacking in people's diets.

Drink more water.  Drink it instead of juices and sodas which add about 90,000 calories to the average person's diet each year.  Drink it between meals too.  In fact, the goal is 8 glasses of water each day.  It's easily possible.  Drinking water will also promote health in general by keeping you well hydrated and cool.

Eat healthy snacks between meals.  The body needs food every three to four hours to maintain proper blood sugar.  Eating healthy snacks, such as fruits, helps control eating at meal times.

Quick weight loss is realistic with some knowledge and planning.  It won't be long before you're slimmer and trimmer.

Fad Diet + Immediate Healthy Diet = Weight Loss?

I am a 25 year old woman, I’m 5’8 and weigh about 173 lbs. I eat TERRIBLE and drink light beer sometimes dark beer daily. I’m trying to jump start my weight loss as I’m seriously sick of looking at myself in the mirror.

If I did some sort of fad liquid diet for 10 days, and lost maybe 10 lbs, and then immediately went on to a 1200-1300 calorie diet with 3-5 weekly visits to the gym, would I gain the weight back from the liquid diet?

I know people say you gain it back because most people go right back to bad eating habits, but if this was just a jumpstart before a normal healthy diet, would this work?

Also, I might not STRICTLY do just liquid. Maybe throw in some raw fruit/vegetables to keep my sanity.

Opinions?

You will have to monitor how your clothing fits. Mostly, people do those liquid diets under a doctor’s supervision due to morbid obesity. I don’t know about the healthfulness about such a diet for a long term plan. Maybe, talk to your doctor, especially, if you haven’t had a physical exam for a few years. Once you have seen your blood profile, ask the doctor to provide a print out of a good diet plan for you. Either that is a challenging activity for the doctor, or it is easy. The only way to find out is by asking.
